What the Hell Do We Want?
Also, Submission Guidelines
PART THE FIRST:
We want content that crows. We want to be surprised, jolted, made to fidget in our seats. Maybe we want to be slapped around a little. We’re a little sexy that way. (Our webmaster’s parents own a leather shop. It’s genetic.)
So we crave innovation. Fiddle with your margins, play with sound and rhythm, add pictograms at disturbing junctures. We won’t tell your editor, your agent, or your thesis director. We’re searching for poetry that has a fearsome temper, that sometimes talks to itself while wandering naked around the house, that reads Nietzsche, that is hip to semiotic theory. We are all about nostalgia – we’re not entirely heartless bastards, except maybe on Mondays – but we’re not looking for sentimental or inspirational verse. Send it to your grandma. Unless your grandma also reads Nietzsche.
There are actually only two stories in the history mankind: the one where a stranger comes to town, and the one where someone goes on a journey. There might be a third one, something about leopards. Good writing, and good luck.
PART THE SECOND:
First of all, we want poetry, but that’s loosely speaking. We’re more than cool with prose poetry and flash fiction, for instance. Micro essays too. Stuff with diagrams and block quotations won’t throw us off, either. Just send us your best work, whatever that is.
For poetry, send no more than 4 pieces, totaling no more than 10 pages.
For prose, send no more than 4 pieces, totaling no more than 1,000 words per piece.
Attach your submission, with cover letter, to an email and send it off to submissions@nopmagazine.com. We will only read submissions in DOC, PDF, or RTF formats. Any other attachment formats will be deleted unread.
We encourage simultaneous submissions, but please notify us immediately at editors@nopmagazine.com if your work is accepted elsewhere.
Our response time is usually around three months. Feel free to drop us a line if we’re slacking.
By accepting NOP Magazine's offer to publish your text, you agree to acknowledge NOP Magazine as first publisher in future reprints of those texts (books, anthologies, etc.).
Despite our love of fun and games, we really are quite firm about our submission guidelines. We expect writers who are serious about publishing their work would be familiar with our guidelines. Any submissions not meeting our standards will be immediately deleted unread.
All questions and comments should be sent to editors@nopmagazine.com
